Panyevar: Middle and High School
Panyevar is a small indigenous community high in the mountains above Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Before the Bethel Panyevar School, students would either travel long distances to neighboring communities or simply stop going to school. This school project is essential to the community because this is the first school in the area that has offered classes beyond elementary school. Pucallpa: Elementary/Vocational school for physically & mentally handicapped children
Located in the jungle area of Peru, Pucallpa is a bustling city at the edge of the vast Amazon rainforest. The Refuge of Hope is an elementary and vocational center for children and youth with physical and mental disabilities. At the vocational school, young adults receive 2 years of training in the areas of shoe repair, electronics, carpentry and sewing. This allows many handicapped young adults to then find work. There are no other schools in the area for children with special needs. Without the Refuge of Hope School, most children would be confined to their homes. This project helps special needs’ students gain the confidence and the education needed to be a part of the broader community in Pucallpa. Get the latest
